21 Day Fast | Day 5

21 Day VICTORY Fast | Day 5
From Pastor Brian Gibbs
January 8th, 2021

Good morning, dear friends! Today is day five as we have entered a very special time of consecration and humility and we open the door to a deeper, more intimate and more powerful relationship with our Father!

Bren and I are blessed that you have chosen to participate in the VICTORY FAST by setting aside 21 days to pray, fast and draw near to God. Fasting is not just an exercise for super-spiritual people. It is actually supposed to a part of every believer’s personal and private spiritual life. Personally, we have found there is no better way to reset our spiritual compass and bring about change and discipline in every area of our lives than through fasting.

We pray that you will experience the presence and power of God in an extraordinary way as you commit yourself to Him over the next 21 days. May God continue to bless you and ignite your passion for Him as you seek Him first!

For these 21 days together, I will provide a daily biblical focus and some thoughts to encourage and strengthen you throughout the fast.

FASTING: BEING SATISFIED WITH GOD ALONE

Day 5

Hunger means PASSION for GOD! Our spiritual cravings and longings for God are what will determine the direction of our lives. Hunger determines destiny. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)

Do you crave God? Do you hunger for His friendship daily? I have come to know experientially that it’s only His Presence that truly satisfies the hunger and deepest longings of my soul. Craving deeper friendship with God has become the greatest adventure of my life.

Hunger for more of God’s manifest glory should be the norm for a follower of Jesus. It’s not something unusual — reserved for only a few impassioned pioneers. The normal state of a Christian is to be thirsty and hungry for God. In the natural we eat and are satisfied, but in the kingdom the more we taste and see that the Lord is good, the hungrier we become. (Ps 34:8) Hunger for God is the place of absolute dependency on the Lord. The more we experience His Love and riches, the more our spirit yearns to encounter His glory. The Bible tells us that God, “satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things” (Ps. 107:9).

David, the passionate psalmist recognized and discerned these deep inner longings of the heart and yearnings for the Presence of God. Many times throughout the Psalms, we find him meditating, offering worship and praise, or crying out to God. His greatest joy was to be with his heavenly Father in intimate communion.

“O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land, Where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1)

“How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts. My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (Psalm 84:1-2)

I think it’s important to note that if our soul and flesh can hunger for more of God, this reveals that our soul and flesh can also be completely and wholly satisfied by Him! With God, it is no contradiction that within the same heart you can be completely fulfilled in Him and yet awakened deeply with new cravings of the soul by His wooing.

Be strengthened and satisfied today by The Holy Spirit it your fast.

“For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalm 107:9)

Make it a great day and be blessed!
Brian
